Dream Big!

As a single-divorced mother raising two daughters, all of my time and resources went to my girls. Even when I went back to school, first I wanted to answer God's call and then I wanted to make sure that my girls would benefit. After all, I had a huge responsibility.

I remember feeling like I needed permission to buy myself necessities. I even felt more guilty if I bought myself a dress or a pair of shoes. My children were always growing out of something. Unfortunately, I got into the habit of putting myself last. As time went on, that habit was difficult to quit. Even to this day, my daughters are 27 and 30 years of age, I'd rather buy something for them rather than for me. They are fully grown functioning and independent young women, but I'm still their mom.

So the question is, "Who's supposed to take care of me?" I've heard through the grapevine that God loves me too! Though I still sometimes struggle with doing things for myself, I've learned that I'm important also. Taking care of the temple where God resides is maintenance, self-love and an act of gratitude to God? Although my role as "mom" will always be highly important to me, there's so much more to me than just that. God's doing a lot with me! I'm an author, motivational speaker, preacher, educator, real estate investor, event planner and a woman having fun with chapter 50. Life is so precious. It's a gift from God. The only "Being" that I need permission from is God. Self-care and self-love is mandatory! It's how I show God my appreciation for life.

The biggest difference between healthy, successful people and the rest of the world is the way that we think. It's a mindset. It's time that we all begin to take care of self, our needs, our desires, the vision God gave us as well as our hopes and my dreams? If we don't take the time, then who will?

Now I ask you these questions:

• Who's supposed to take care of you?
• What about the vision God gave you?
• Isn't it time that you begin to take care of you, your needs, your desires, your vision, your hopes and your dreams?

It's okay to love yourself. It's okay to go after your dreams. If you don't love you, then why would anyone else? It's okay to dream. In fact, Dream big! Don't you think you're worth it?

What/Who Are You Waiting For?

I believe the church is responsible for how we understand and live out the concept of waiting on God. Truth be told we have no choice. Whatever we are hoping for, despite what we do, will involve some wait time.

I have a concern. Waiting on God for most means doing absolutely nothing at all. You need a job, well just wait. You need some income, well just wait. You need your house cleaned, well just wait. You need a house to live in, well just wait.

Um...contrary to what most will tell you, if you keep waiting like that you will be sadly disappointed. Let me get this right. We believe that God resides in us but mysteriously we think that the work will come from something outside of us. Huh? 

Waiting isn't a laziness or inactivity. If I need to catch a bus, I still have to walk to the bus stop. I still have to prepare the fare that I need to have once I get on it. If I need a job, then I have to prepare a resume, look for a job, make myself presentable and go on interviews. If I want a husband then I have to prepare my mindset, make myself presentable, get out of the house and actually be nice or play nice with men. 

Waiting on God requires something of us. It's not a passiveness or a non-responsible thing. We have proactive work to do. Faith without works is dead and so is your request. Act like you want it. Do something. This is not to mean you go out ahead of God. It doesn't mean you stop discerning and make bad decisions. It doesn't mean to take something or someone in desperation. It means to prepare for it. You'll know it's yours when you see it. Do your part.

You may be waiting on God, but I have a feeling that God is also waiting on you...

The Substance of Things Hoped For

I'm headed back home and I'm just as excited as I was when I left. Sure it was hard to leave that little stretch of heaven I call Honolulu, but when I know that this is one of many excursions, achievements and only a small part of the dream I am so elated that I find myself running towards what's next. Oh My Goodness, I can't tell you what it feels like to begin to see the manifestation of my dreams, what was then unseen, as I exercised my faith, the substance of things hoped for.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. 

A growing business and a fulfillment of the things that matter to me makes all of this worth fighting for. I've been on a lot of trips, but most of them were business related with a few fun-filled trips in between. I have to admit that I've been many places. My parents took us camping all over the U.S. when we were little. I've been to Africa the Bahamas and more, but this was different. It was connected to a dream. It was the result of working hard and building something I can already see that has changed my life and will also affect others. That's why I share what I do, because hopefully it will give you vision to to dream and to exercise your faith. What an amazing feeling. What a blessing!

Living the DREAM!

I'm up at 4 am on the last day of a well needed vacation. The amazing part is that I'm finally in Hawaii! It's been on the bucket list before there was such a list. It's "one of" my dream trips and it's lived up to be just that...A DREAM COME TRUE!

I've worked harder than I've ever worked in my life to build a business and it's really beginning to pay off. This trip is without limitations. We did exactly what we wanted to do, which was mostly hanging out on the beach and feeding our faces. We did venture out. We went on a tour and saw some breathtaking places. We also enjoyed a luau. I can't tell you how grateful I am.

How's it possible? I'm glad that you asked. Mostly because I stepped out on faith and did what I've always wanted to do, which was to learn how to invest in real estate. If becoming an investor has been a thought, a dream or an interest, then what are you waiting for?

My Life Has Changed!

There were days that I woke up wondering "Why am I here?" There was one challenge after another. There was one disappointment after another. It "felt like" God was hiding from me. Stress was at an all time high. It felt like all I did was work and pay bills. It felt like I owed everyone. It also felt like the older I got the less needed I became. I use to be able to get any job I wanted.

My dad has been a contractor and has been instrumental in helping people rehab homes for as long as I can remember. My daughter and I became fascinated with watching and often helping him do what he does so well. We had an opportunity to go through a program that taught us everything. The catch was that a 2-hour class lead us to a 3-day class which lead us to a nearly $50,000 investment in our education. Though it was worth every nickel, we had no idea because they never told us you up front.

Well, we did it. We took the class and rehabbed homes and it changed our lives. Yes, it was a struggle at first, but I have to say that it was worth it! We decided to use our own gifts and develop a program that tells you up front what you are getting into. We wanted to do something that people could afford. We were determined to create a program to fit everyone's schedule. We wanted to transform communities and the lives of the people in them. 

We realize that if people only knew what investors knew that they would never make another real estate purchase the same way again. We knew that folks would stop renting and start owning. Our first purchase gave us $60,000 in equity. It took us a few months to complete everything and our net worth increased by $60,000. My life has changed, drastically! God has been there all the time. If we can do it, then so can you!
